What's New

Projects that UTC’s Smart Networks Council will undertake in the year ahead will include:

  • Creation of an “AMI Options” Model, comparable to UTC’s “Mobile Radio Upgrade Options” Model that helps utilities ensure they are examining all available options when considering implementing a new AMI system.
  • Coordinate work among UTC member utilities, technology providers and UTC’s Critical Infrastructure Communications Coalition to ensure all federal and state regulators encourage deployment of all available AMI and distribution automation technologies with realistic cost recovery.
  • Work with UTC Research to update existing UTC AMI and smart grid research studies on annual basis as well as launch new studies as may be determined by the SNC.
  • Develop AMI / smart networks education programs for UTC’s regional meetings and for Federal & State Regulators.
  • Work with appropriate standards bodies (i.e., IEEE, ANSI, ETSI, ISO) and API organizations (i.e., NRECA’s MultiSpeak) to ensure interoperability of AMI and distribution automation technologies through existing APIs or by creating new APIs or formal standards recommendations.
